Groups and Workshops
Dr. Wilson provides a variety of therapeutic groups, trainings, and workshops to help supplement one’s personal development and/or deepen personal growth practices. Groups often concentrate around a specific topic, issue, or goal. They are process-oriented and offer peer support, collective learning, and inspiration for both healing and development of a better self. The trainings and workshops are more psychoeducational and are focused on developing specific skills.
Trainings and Workshops:
Social Skills Training
This is a unique approach to overcoming social anxiety, practicing authenticity, and improving communication skills. During Social Skills Trainings (SSTs) Dr. Wilson provides one-on-one feedback and coaching in vivo (during social engagements). These trainings are individually tailored to address your specific needs, such as talking to strangers, feeling comfortable in social engagements, talking to potential romantic partners, or establishing new friendships. We discuss strategies for initiating conversations, sustaining conversations, and leaving conversations successfully. He implements a variety of resources and techniques to keep these trainings confidential yet effective.
Stress Resilience Training
Success and happiness should not be limited to stress management and reduction; it's also about gaining the skills to be empowered by what life offers even when it may seem overwhelming. This is an 8-week program that offers multiple approaches, such as mindfulness and neurobiological resilience, to harness the potentials of life's intensities. Participants will meet for 60 minutes each week to reviewed the presented material and practice the program activities. Additionally, each participant receives a free workbook and audio CD.
The Happiness Workshop
This 8-week training reviews the fundamentals of cultivating happiness, positivity, and mindfulness while providing multiple resources and applicable exercises for increasing your overall well-being and success in your personal and professional endeavors. Participants will meet for 90 minutes each week to reviewed the presented material and practice the program activities. Additionally, each participant receives a free workbook and audio CD.
Mindful Parenting
In this 8-week workshop, parents will practice the skills of mindful parenting and have the support and guidance of tailoring the techniques to meet the unique needs of their family. Astounding breakthroughs in neuroscience and psychological research have revealed that mindfulness-based trainings can help parents cultivate loving bonds and facilitate healthy brain development in their children. Mindful parenting can also help parents improve their own brain mechanisms responsible for positive caregiving, stress resilience, and well-being. Each parent will receive a copy of Brain-Based Parenting: The Neuroscience of Caregiving for Healthy Attachment by Huges & Baylin. I also discuss the work of Stan Takin on interpersonal neurobiology. This is essentially attachment-based work that discusses how our parenting can wire our children's brain . Dr. Wilson believes attachment based work is just as important to understand as much as personality types. Additionally, each parent will be given a workbook with additional information and exercises to compliment their participation in the program.
Group Work:
Social Intelligence Group
This group is ideal for individuals working on social anxiety, communication skills, and authenticity. The group meets once a week for 90 minutes and requires a commitment of at least six months. Typically there are only 6-8 members to a group, and once a group starts, no new members are added. The first three months of group focus on communication skills, such as getting feedback on how you may be coming across or asking if your interpretation of a person's emotional state is accurate. The later portion of group focuses on deeper level processing with others while exploring your origins of anxiety and stress.
The Dads Group
I love this group! (breaking from the third person for this one) The guys form such close bonds, and they all state that they don't have the connectedness and liberty to discuss difficult topics in group even with their closest friends. We typically meet for 90 minutes once a week. I feel very grateful to provide such a venue; it's quite beautiful. Becoming a father can be one of the most exciting and challenging opportunities a man could hope to experience in his life. This support and process group offers an opportunity for new and expecting dads to become educated about the obligations, struggles, and rewards of being a father while providing a space for them to process, vent, and explore all of their new endeavors with the support of guys managing similar life experiences. This group is open to Dads who wish to continue the unfolding peregrination of fatherhood with support.
